Eggnog 1

This recipe for eggnog comes from George Washington's own recipe archives.

Ingredients

Full Batch

  • 2 cups brandy
  • 1 cup rye whiskey
  • 1 cup Jamaica rum
  • 1/2 cup sherry
  • 8 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 quarts half and half
Makes almost 4 quarts

1/2 Batch

  • 1 cups brandy
  • 1/2 cup rye whiskey
  • 1/2 cup Jamaica rum
  • 1/4 cup sherry
  • 4 eggs
  • 6 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 quart half and half
Makes between 1 1/2 and 2 quarts depending on how well the eggs are beaten.

Directions

Mix liquors first, then separate yolks and whites of eggs.

Beat yolks and add sugar, mixing well.

Add liquor to mixture slowly, continuing to beat.

Add milk and cream, slowly beating.

Beat whites of eggs until stiff and fold slowly into mixture.

Chill thoroughly.
